Richard Towell | director
Richard Towell is the founder and Director of ELRO Energy and a senior LNG executive with more than 25 years of experience across LNG trading, shipping strategy and commercial negotiations.
He has held senior roles with Royal Dutch Shell, Origin Energy and AGL Energy, developing expertise in LNG tolling structures, offtake agreements, shipping strategy and LNG portfolio development.
Richard has negotiated equity lifting, balancing and offtake agreements for major LNG projects including Prelude LNG, Wheatstone LNG and Browse LNG, and has led the development of LNG trading and shipping capabilities within large energy organisations.
During his career with Shell, Richard expanded the LNG trading fleet from two to fifteen LNG carriers and was seconded to the North West Shelf LNG project, where he managed shipping strategies across a fleet of twenty LNG vessels.
In 2005 he drafted ShellLNGTime1, the LNG industry benchmark charterparty that remains widely used across the LNG shipping market today.
Richard holds an Honours degree in Maritime Business and Maritime Law and a Diploma in Marine Operations, and has completed the Diploma of Financial Energy Markets with the Australian Financial Markets Association and the professional examinations of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
Through ELRO Energy, Richard advises clients on LNG commercial negotiations, shipping strategy and LNG portfolio development.
